Not sure about you but the beach is definitely my happy place! This was my first time and Jesse and Julia’s first time visiting El Matador State Beach and it blew us all away. This beach is truly unique and once you visit you can easily see the hype and why it can become such a popular spot for photos and tourists. I highly recommend visiting just for fun or traveling even if you don’t plan to do a photoshoot. El Matador State Beach was the perfect location for our couple photoshoot and we had the best time getting multiple different looks at this location.
We started off our photoshoot with a little more dressy casual of an outfit while still capturing their personalities and going with the beachy vibe look. These two were naturals in front of the camera so I let them take the lead a bit and let the session have a natural flow and more storytelling feel. Julia first led Jesse to the water and we did a few more posed shots in this spot.
The second outfit we went more casual and Julia had this super cute yellow dress and Jesse had a nice white tee and pants to match. We did some more intimate shots and played around with the scenery and the incredible El Matador famous rocks. These two were amazing and not afraid to experiment and get creative together which made this photoshoot so much fun.
The caves at El Matador State Beach are one of the things that make this landscape so unique! There were some gorgeous pockets of light that created some stunning and dramatic photos.
This outfit has to be one of my favorites from this session. I love the casualness and playfulness of blue jeans and white tees/tanks. We took a break from the water for this part of the photoshoot and got a little more direct sun and the cliff background. The cliff background was gorgeous. To get these two a little more playful with this look, we did some piggyback rides and had them chase each other and lay on the beach together.
I love whenever I get a chance to get creative during couples photoshoots and these two were down for it all. I decided to lower my shutter speed to get some motion blur shots, far away, and close ups to have more storytelling in this session. With post-production and I editing I went for some black and white photos which create such a nostalgic look. We were at the beach when the sun was setting soon as we were approaching golden hour. The time of day was perfect for getting those natural warm and glowy tones.
For this last bit we did a couple more with another dress Julia had and then finished our session in the water. These two also love to surf and we would have gotten more in the water with their board but were cut short on time. It was so great to capture these two in their element for this photoshoot.
I cannot wait to visit El Matador State Beach again for more photoshoots! This photoshoot and this couple were incredible. We got a little lucky during this time we went to this beach. It wasn’t too crowded since we went on a weekday. If you have any questions or are looking to book a session at El Matador State Beach, contact me for booking here.
